Manila: Five weather systems, including a low-pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains across the country, the weather bureau said Tuesday. In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the LPA is located 275 kilometers east of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan.
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA indicated that the LPA has a small chance of developing into a tropical depression, but it is embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao. The ITCZ is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Negros Island, Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Dinagat Islands.
The remaining areas of Visayas and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms also due to the ITCZ. Batanes will encounter cloudy skies with rains as a result of “amihan”. PAGASA announced the onset of the amihan season on Monday, indicating the beginning of cooler and drier months in most parts of the country.
Easterlies are another weather system impacting the country, specifically Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected. Extreme northern Luzon will face moderate to strong northeast winds and moderate to rough seas, while other parts of the archipelago will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.
