Filipina Gymnast Ramilo Clinches Gold, Silver Medals in Spain

Manila: Italy-based Filipina rhythmic gymnast Jasmine Althea Ramilo came out with another sterling performance after winning gold and silver medals in the 4th International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament Viravolta-Jael in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia in Spain on Oct. 25-26. Ramilo, whose parents came from Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur, bagged the hoop title and settled for silver in the ball event even without her parents around to cheer her up.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ramilo’s mother, Fhey, expressed her happiness and pride in her daughter’s ability to travel and compete independently. ‘Masaya kami ng daddy nya kasi she travel alone, di na namin sinasamahan. Sanay na siya, we know she’s safe naman (Her daddy and I are happy because she can travel alone, we don’t have to accompany her anymore. She’s used to it, we know she’s safe),’ Fhey said in an interview on Tuesday.

After her successful stint in Spain, Fhey mentioned that Jasmine is set to train again under her Italian coach Claudia Mancinelli for another competition in Germany next month. Earlier this year, on Feb. 2, Jasmine had a victorious run at the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament – Olympic 74 Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she won three medals, including a gold. She also placed 9th in the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Singapore and claimed two medals at Spain’s Liga Iberdrola in May.
