Camp aguinaldo: Civilian employees of the Department of National Defense (DND) have been recognized for their contribution to strengthening the Philippines' defense capabilities. A ranking defense official emphasized their role in building the nation's credible deterrent posture during an event marking the beginning of the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.
According to Philippines News Agency, DND Undersecretary for Administration Gavin Edjawan, representing Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., addressed attendees at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. He underlined the importance of civilian personnel in executing the agency's mandate while adhering to the highest standards expected of public servants. Edjawan stated, "We have a role to play in building our country's strong deterrent posture that will allow us to deal with a position of relative parity with dignity and with honor."
The undersecretary encouraged all government personnel to maintain excellence, accountability, and ethical conduct amid evolving challenges and ongoing governance reforms. The event also aimed to inspire DND employees to uphold the values and ethics of true public servants, staying committed to earning the trust of the Filipino people.
The month-long celebration of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, guided by the theme "Bawat Kawani, Lingkod Bayani: Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para sa Bayan," is in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 1050, series of 1997. This proclamation declares September as "Civil Service Month" in observance of the establishment of the Philippine Civil Service on September 19, 1900, through Public Law No. 5.
