Davao city: The National Durian Industry Summit 2025 will equip local farmers to expand the global reach of Davao Region’s “king of fruits,” organizers announced Thursday. In an interview facilitated by the City Information Office, Fe Oguio, agriculturist and durian focal person of the City Agriculturist Office, said the Nov. 25-26 event will give farmers direct access to international experts.
According to Philippines News Agency, Oguio emphasized the importance of the summit as a platform for farmers to gain first-hand information and address concerns related to durian technology. She pointed out that the Philippines is still lagging behind in this field and highlighted the need for local farmers to learn from international counterparts. Oguio reported significant growth in the local industry, with 19 factories now operating compared to just three previously engaged in durian exports.
Oguio encouraged broad participation from growers, noting the summit’s strategic importance. She urged all farmers, especially those involved in durian production, to attend the summit to learn and network with exhibitors. Organizers stated in a public announcement that the summit aims to “scale our pride-Philippine durian-to new global heights.”
International speakers from Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia are scheduled to share their expertise on production techniques and international quality standards at the event, which expects to host 350-400 local durian farmers.
