Davao city: The Department of Agriculture-Davao (DA-11), the Durian Industry Association of Davao City, and SM Lanang launched the 11th Durian Festival on Tuesday afternoon as part of this month’s Kadayawan Festival. In his speech, DA-11 Director Macario Gonzaga said the event is a strategic platform for promoting the local durian industry, enhancing market visibility, and driving economic growth.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Durian Festival, which runs from Aug. 12 to Sept. 14, is an annual event that continues to promote the durian industry and recognize the hard work of local farmers and producers. ‘It is a testament to the passion, dedication, and resilience of our agricultural communities, especially those committed to cultivating the ‘King of Fruits,” Gonzaga said.
The festival also highlights the strong export potential of top-quality durian varieties, with rising global demand, especially in countries like China, South Korea, and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. ‘Through activities such as trade fairs, durian competitions, and business matching, we provide vital opportunities for farmers and producers to connect with buyers, investors, and consumers,’ Gonzaga explained. He added that by improving quality standards, supply chains, and marketing strategies, DA-11 is positioning Davao durian as a premium product on the global stage.
In February, DA reported that Maylong Enterprises Corp., a Davao City-based company, became the first Philippine enterprise approved by the General Administration of Customs of China to export frozen durian meat and paste. Maylong shipped 1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat and 300 boxes of durian paste, valued at PHP8.2 million, to Nansha District, Guangzhou, China.
