DSWD Provides Financial Assistance to Families of SK Officials in Laguna Accident

Laguna: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has extended financial assistance to the families of eight Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from Tabaco City, Albay province, who were involved in a vehicular accident in Laguna earlier this week. This support is part of the agency’s efforts to aid those affected by the unfortunate incident.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio announced that the assistance was delivered through the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program. Each family received PHP5,000 to cover transportation expenses, enabling them to attend to the hospitalized victims in Laguna.

The SK officials were participating in a seminar when the accident occurred at midnight on January 20 in Alaminos, Laguna. The incident resulted in one fatality and left seven individuals severely injured.

DSWD-5 is also working with its counterpart in Calabarzon to coordinate medical assistance for the injured individuals. Furthermore, plans are in place to provide funeral assistance to the bereaved family of the deceased SK official. The amount of this assistance will be determined based on an assessment by a social worker.

Laurio emphasized that the agency is maintaining close communication with the families and the Tabaco City government to ensure that all affected individuals receive the necessary support and assistance.
