DSWD-6 Allocates Over PHP99 Million for Tropical Storm Ramil Victims in Capiz

Capiz: The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office in Western Visayas (DSWD FO-6) has disbursed more than PHP99 million in emergency financial assistance to families impacted by Tropical Storm Ramil in Capiz. The aid was distributed between November 13 and 18 to 19,050 families either severely or slightly affected by the storm.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD FO-6 Regional Information Officer Therese Fely Legaste explained that of the total beneficiaries, 18,300 were deemed slightly affected and received PHP5,005 each. In contrast, 750 families classified as severely affected were provided with PHP10,010 each. The classification of severity was based on whether houses were destroyed, casualties occurred, or if there was a significant loss in livelihood exceeding 50 percent. Slightly affected families had partially damaged homes.

The province of Capiz is in a state of calamity, and relief efforts are ongoing for additional affected families. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that Tropical Storm Ramil, which occurred in October, resulted in at least seven deaths and affected 56,000 families or 173,000 individuals across Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

Furthermore, DSWD-6 is awaiting instructions from the central office regarding additional aid for those whose homes were damaged by Typhoons Tino and Uwan in the preceding weeks. Legaste mentioned that family food packs and ready-to-eat food boxes have already been distributed, and those with damaged homes have been referred to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
