DPWH: Preps Underway for Construction of Isabela Detour Bridge

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that preparations are underway for the construction of a detour bridge to replace the collapsed Cabagan-Santa Maria Bridge in Isabela, Cagayan.

According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon stated that clearing operations are currently being conducted in preparation for the construction. The construction works are scheduled to commence immediately after these operations, with an expected completion date set for March 2026.

Last week, Secretary Dizon led an inspection of the collapsed structure to identify the most effective repair solution. This initiative follows a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who emphasized the need for prompt clearing operations on the collapsed section of the bridge.

Dizon highlighted the urgency of completing the project to alleviate the daily inconveniences faced by residents, who have been forced to use boats to cross between the towns of Cabagan and Sta Maria. The bridge, which connects these two towns, had been completed at a cost of PHP1.22 billion on February 1, 2025.

The structure collapsed on February 27 when a dump truck, loaded beyond the 45-ton weight limit, attempted to cross, resulting in at least six injuries and damage to several vehicles.
