Cebu city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is ready to provide necessary assistance to expedite recovery efforts in areas severely affected by Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) in the province of Cebu. Secretary Vince Dizon said the agency will deploy heavy equipment and personnel for clearing and declogging operations in flooded areas.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Dizon emphasized that the President has directed the provision of all necessary resources to assist local mayors in recovery efforts. He assured that all available equipment in Cebu is at the disposal of local authorities. Dizon stated, “No matter what district, as long as what is needed, they just ask and the DPWH will provide it.”
Declogging operations have already commenced to address the mud from the river that has infiltrated the drainage systems. Dizon also instructed the DPWH Central Visayas Office to deploy heavy equipment, including backhoes and dump trucks, along with personnel, to conduct road clearing operations. These measures aim to ease traffic flow and expedite the delivery of relief goods and medical assistance to residents.
The DPWH head visited Cebu City on Wednesday to assess the situation, particularly focusing on the cities of Talisay and Mandaue. In Talisay City, more than 3,000 families have been affected, while in Mandaue City, 5,000 families have been impacted.
