Pio duran: Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has mandated the swift repair and expansion of the Pio Duran Port in Albay, which sustained damage during the impact of Super Typhoon Uwan on November 10.
According to Philippines News Agency, the directive aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s orders for prompt restoration of infrastructures, particularly transportation hubs affected by Typhoon Uwan and Typhoon Tino on November 4. During an inspection at Pio Duran Port, Lopez instructed the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to construct a new, wider pier and a road connector to improve the port’s current condition. He stressed the necessity of resuming port operations rapidly and highlighted the importance of accelerating the pier’s expansion.
Lopez noted that 30 cargo trucks are scheduled to depart from the port to Masbate, emphasizing the port’s critical role in local public transportation, business, and trade. Additionally, he ordered the establishment of a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Law Enforcement Building at the port to ensure timely maritime emergency responses and to enhance security.
During the inspection, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago reported damage to the top pavement of the slope protector of a ramp at Pio Duran Port. The PPA also identified several broken solar lights, a damaged ceiling at the passenger terminal building, and a damaged roll-up door of the generator set at San Andres Port in Catanduanes. Furthermore, the typhoon damaged two high mast lighting and CCTV cameras at the Port of Pasacao in Camarines Sur. Santiago assured that all ports in Bicol under the PPA remain operational.
Santiago stated that repair efforts would be expedited, with steps to address the damage expected to commence before the year ends.
