Manila: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) called on companies to permit employees with children under five years old to take leave when accompanying them for measles-rubella vaccinations. This request aligns with the ongoing Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) led by the Department of Health (DOH).
According to Philippines News Agency, Labor Advisory No. 02-2026, dated February 9 and released on Wednesday, outlined the agency's encouragement for employers to support parental involvement in the MR-SIA. Employers are advised to excuse employees from work to accompany their children for scheduled vaccinations or to care for them if they experience adverse reactions the day after vaccination. Employees may also utilize available leave credits for this purpose, contingent on company policy or collective bargaining agreements.
DOLE emphasized that employees should present proof of vaccination. Additionally, the advisory encouraged companies to host vaccination activities at their workplaces as part of their occupational safety, health, or family welfare programs.
The advisory suggested that employers could establish temporary vaccination posts within their premises and utilize occupational health personnel as part of the vaccination team. Companies are also encouraged to coordinate with the DOH or local government units to align with the immunization schedule.
