Dinagat Islands Secures P100-Million Funding for Sports Complex from PSC

Dinagat islands: The provincial government of Dinagat Islands has successfully secured PHP100 million from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to facilitate the completion of the Dinagat Islands Sports Complex. Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. announced that construction has already commenced at the designated site in Barangay Wilson, San Jose town, with land preparation currently underway. The construction of the facilities is set to begin once the funds are transferred.

According to Philippines News Agency, the funding agreement was finalized during a meeting in Manila on Tuesday between Governor Demerey and PSC chair Patrick Gregorio. The allocated funds will cover the first phase of the sports complex construction, which includes a 400-meter rubberized track oval with eight lanes and a central field designed for multi-sport activities.

The plans for the sports facility also encompass the construction of spectator stands, lighting, drainage systems, and community amenities such as jogging lanes and fitness stations. Governor Demerey expressed optimism that the new venue will offer young athletes in the area an appropriate place to train and compete, potentially paving the way for their participation in regional and national events.

Demerey highlighted that the complex would also host organized programs aimed at identifying promising athletes for higher-level competitions, thereby fostering local sports talent. He also conveyed the community's gratitude towards the PSC for investing in this landmark facility, which symbolizes progress and commitment to the youth of the province.

Furthermore, Governor Demerey acknowledged the technical support provided by Dick Victor Carmona, the secretary general of the Philippine Councilors League in Caraga, during the presentation of the province's sports program.
