2026 Paraw Regatta Festival Searches for Best Tasting Lechon

Iloilo city: Ilonggos and spectators for the 2026 Paraw Regatta will not only feast their eyes on colorful sailboats but will also savor Iloilo City's Best Tasting Lechon. Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival Inc. chair John Lex Bayombong on Wednesday said they expect around 12 to 15 competing and non-competing entries this year.

According to Philippines News Agency, on March 1, the roasted pigs will be paraded from Breakthrough Restaurant to the judging area in front of Tatoy's Manokan and Seafood in Barangay Sto. Ni±o Sur, Arevalo. After the judging, they will be served to the public for free. Bayombong mentioned in an interview that while they aim to ensure spectators can taste the lechon, it might be challenging to provide for all due to the expected thousands of attendees.

Aside from offering Ilonggos the chance to enjoy the food, Bayombong noted that one benefit of the event is the potential increase in clients for the winners. Winning brings pride and positions the 'lechoneros' as the preferred choice for roasted pig in the area. Additionally, the event serves as a platform to promote pork products, especially significant after African swine fever affected the city and province of Iloilo last year.

The search for the best tasting lechon has become a popular side event since the Paraw Regatta Festival returned to an in-person format after the pandemic. The Arevalo district, hosting the annual sailing event, is well-known for its renowned roasted pig.
