Bicol: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 5 has commenced the distribution of PHP30.8 million in cash-for-work wages under the TUPAD program to workers in Bicol affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to Philippines News Agency, DOLE-Bicol director Imelda Gatinao announced that the distribution of wages under the government’s emergency employment program began on October 28 and will continue until November 5, excluding November 1 to 3. The initial payouts, totaling PHP30.83 million, have been distributed to 7,249 workers in Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes on October 29 and 30.

Each beneficiary received a daily wage of PHP395 for their participation in community projects such as cleanup drives, community-based farming, planting disaster-resilient crops, and repacking relief goods. The first payout on October 29 saw simultaneous distributions in several locations, including Camalig, Albay, where 818 workers received PHP3.2 million; Lupi, Camarines Su
r, with 240 workers receiving PHP948,000; and San Fernando, Masbate, where 384 workers were paid PHP3.03 million.

On October 30, further payouts were held in various areas of Albay, benefiting 4,274 workers with PHP16.8 million. Additionally, payouts in Masbate City and Catanduanes provided wages to 400 beneficiaries, amounting to PHP2.02 million. In Sorsogon province, 596 workers received PHP2.6 million in assistance.

The TUPAD Program offers temporary wage employment for 10 to 30 days of community work, especially during disasters and calamities, allowing residents to aid in community rehabilitation. DOLE assured that it remains committed to providing necessary assistance to support workers and their families in disaster recovery efforts.
