Manila: Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida announced on Tuesday that the government has extended its visa relief program for foreigners affected by the crisis in the Middle East.
According to Philippines News Agency, Vida stated that the DOJ extended the program from April 1 to May 1 under Department Order (DO) 219, which he signed on March 30. This order extends the original directive under DO 159, allowing those with visas expiring on February 28, 2026, to remain in the country without facing fines or penalties.
Vida explained during a press briefing that the extension was necessary due to ongoing restrictions and various constraints that prevent some visiting foreigners from returning home. "Based on the order I signed yesterday, we're extending this to May 1," he said.
On March 13, Vida instructed the Bureau of Immigration to provide visa relief to foreign nationals impacted by the mass cancellation of outbound flights resulting from the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East. Vida emphasized that the visa relief program highlights the Philippines' dedication to humanitarian efforts during global crises.
The Middle East is responsible for handling approximately 14 percent of international air traffic.
