Manila: Finance Secretary Ralph Recto on Monday expressed support to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s decision to put on hold the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) rehabilitation project. Recto stated that this move is a clear sign of responsive and people-centered leadership.
According to Philippines News Agency, Recto emphasized that the President and his administration are genuinely attentive to the needs of the citizens. He highlighted the importance of infrastructure that serves rather than inconveniences the public. Recto noted that this decision will help the government develop infrastructure projects that are not only faster but smarter for the Filipino people.
Recto assured the public that his agency remains committed to supporting key infrastructure initiatives, especially those aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Metro Manila. Citing the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Recto pointed out that traffic congestion in Metro Manila leads to a daily economic loss of PHP3.5 billion, underscoring the need for government efforts that are deliberate and informed by data.
He further stated that the Department of Finance will ensure that all ongoing infrastructure projects receive uninterrupted and adequate funding, allowing them to be completed on time with minimal disruption to the public.
