DOE Teams Up with PNP, DILG vs. Fuel Products Hoarding

Manila: The Department of Energy (DOE) on Thursday announced that an investigation into alleged petroleum products hoarding is currently underway. This effort aims to safeguard the public from individuals exploiting the ongoing supply issues influenced by the conflict in the Middle East.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOE has received reports from its field offices in Luzon and Mindanao regarding anomalies in fuel supply and retail pricing. The department emphasized that individuals found guilty of violating Republic Act 7581, or the Price Act, will face penalties including fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of goods.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin stated, "We will not tolerate any attempt to take advantage of the current situation at the expense of Filipino consumers." This statement was part of a news release. She also highlighted that, under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the government is implementing a comprehensive approach to protect the public and ensure steady fuel supply and distribution.

The DOE is also encouraging the public to report any illegal activities that could jeopardize the domestic power supply.
