Negros island: The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which leads the Management of the Dead and Missing Cluster of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Negros Island Region (NIR), reported 66 fatalities and 68 missing persons due to Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi).
According to Philippines News Agency, as of 5 p.m. Monday, the death toll included 45 individuals from Negros Occidental and 21 from Negros Oriental. The DILG-NIR has verified 41 of these deaths, while the remaining 25 are pending verification.
Among the missing, 63 individuals are from Negros Occidental and 5 from Negros Oriental. Verification has been completed for 9 of these cases, leaving 59 still under verification.
In the fifth district of Negros Occidental, where the majority of casualties and missing persons have been reported, Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo stated that search and retrieval teams are actively searching for the missing. He expressed gratitude to those assisting in the search efforts.
Moises Padilla town has particularly been affected, with at least 25 individuals still reported missing, as per the DILG-NIR report. The local disaster risk reduction and management offices are supported by the Philippine National Police Explosive and Ordinance Division K9 personnel, K9 Search and Rescue of the Philippines Inc., and drone volunteers in their operations.
