Manila: The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday assured the public that telecommunications companies are continuously repairing their infrastructure damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong). In a statement, DICT Secretary Henry Aguda reported that telecommunications services in Metro Manila are currently fully operational, and the areas most affected by the typhoon are Northern Luzon and Bicol Region.
According to Philippines News Agency, as of 9 a.m., DITO reported 71 percent of its network is online, Globe is at 54 percent availability, Smart is at 74 percent, and Converge at 64 percent. DICT, along with telcos and other government agencies, is continuously working to immediately restore connection to every Filipino, emphasizing that communication is crucial during times of distress.
Secretary Aguda further added that the DICT and the National Telecommunications Commission are collaborating with telecommunications companies to restore services across the country within the next 24 to 48 hours. He highlighted the importance of “Digital Bayanihan” in ensuring that no Filipino will be left behind and no connection will be interrupted amidst the crisis.
