Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) announced that the National Housing Authority (NHA) is committed to completing the 4,702 unfinished housing projects for Super Typhoon Yolanda victims by December this year.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar stated that the NHA has already finished 53,917 units of the 58,619 permanent housing requirements under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project (YPHP). Out of the completed units, 45,454 are currently occupied by beneficiaries. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed the NHA to complete all YPHP units in Eastern Visayas.

Acuzar assured that all issues related to Yolanda housing projects will be resolved within this year. The housing units are situated in various locations including Cool Spring Residences, Riverside Community Residences, and others in Leyte, Samar, and Biliran. Qualified beneficiaries include families displaced by Yolanda in November 2013 and those living in identified hazard-prone areas.

On Friday, Marcos presided over the ceremonial turnover of 3,517 housing units in Burauen, Leyte. He also directed the DHSUD and NHA to explore other housing designs that are suitable for and resilient against climate change and natural disasters.
