Pasig city: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) visited a community in Pasig City on Wednesday to check on potential beneficiaries of the government’s Enhanced Community Mortgage Program (ECMP).
According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, accompanied by SHFC President Federico Laxa, met with residents of Villa Soledad Homeowners Association Inc. in Barangay Pinagbuhatan. They discussed the benefits of the enhanced housing program under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) initiative. Aliling emphasized President Marcos Jr.’s commitment to providing residents with security and peace of mind in their homes and improving their community.
The ECMP aims to improve upon the original community mortgage program by streamlining processes, increasing access to financing, and ensuring faster land acquisition and development. It supports organized communities in acquiring the land they occupy and upgrading it into livable, secure settlements.
Currently, 34 ECMP projects have been approved nationwide, which are expected to benefit around 7,000 families. These projects are part of the administration’s larger effort to address the housing backlog and uplift the living conditions of informal settlers.
On Tuesday, Laxa met with members of civil society organizations and discussed critical issues such as documentary requirements, technical subsidies, the role of mobilizers, and project approval timelines, among others. The meeting outcomes are expected to guide SHFC in updating the EMCP’s guidelines, making it more inclusive, efficient, and responsive to the needs of communities.
