Manila:The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced its collaboration with water service providers to ensure a steady water supply in schools as the country braces for a 'very strong' El Niño.
According to Philippines News agency, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara revealed that they have engaged with Maynilad, a water concessionaire, to promote water conservation efforts nationwide. Secretary Angara mentioned that Maynilad has provided useful tips and literature to be distributed in schools, with translations underway for broader distribution.
Maynilad has also assured DepEd of an adequate water supply, citing stable water levels in major dams. In addition to ensuring water availability, DepEd has previously committed to providing access to clean drinking water to maintain hydration among students.
The department has issued guidelines to prepare for the extreme heat anticipated due to El Niño. These include the implementation of the 4H framework—Hayo, Hinay, Hinga, and Hinto—designed to support learning continuity while safeguarding the health and well-being of students and teachers. DepEd has also granted flexibility in school uniforms, provided they adhere to the acceptable campus dress codes.
