Antique: The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique is considering extending daily class hours by at least 30 minutes to one hour. This measure aims to help learners catch up on missed lessons due to the suspension of classes caused by Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Edward Ba±a, the chief of the Curriculum and Teaching Division for DepEd Antique, emphasized the necessity of a catch-up plan following the suspension of face-to-face classes from November 3 to 6 due to Typhoon Tino and from November 10 to 11 due to Typhoon Uwan. Ba±a mentioned that school heads and teachers would devise strategies to effectively utilize the additional time to cover all subjects, ensuring learners meet their educational competencies. The plan also involves alternative delivery modes, including modular and online classes.
Ba±a highlighted that their survey indicated 90 percent of teachers successfully distributed learning modules, allowing students to continue their studies despite the disruptions caused by Typhoon Tino. In addition, he reported that 538 schools, serving 130,879 learners across 18 municipalities in the province, had to suspend classes for two days, starting from Monday, as per Memorandum Circular 106 issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Moreover, Ba±a noted that seven schools with 29 classrooms are currently being used as evacuation centers, underscoring the broader impact of the typhoons on the province’s educational infrastructure.
