DepEd Antique Exec Seeks Community Support for Literacy Project

Manila: Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr. is seeking community support for the implementation of a literacy project in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, Servillon, who assumed post on Monday, emphasized the importance of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), barangay officials, and other community members in supporting the ‘Kasimaryo ko, Tudluan Ko’ (My Neighbor, I will Mentor) initiative. This project targets learners struggling with literacy and numeracy skills.

Servillon highlighted the issue of learners whose parents are also unable to read, write, and count, suggesting that these families could benefit from the community literacy project. He mentioned that SK members would receive training to assist Alternative Learning School teachers in conducting remedial lessons, while barangay officials would identify learners in need of assistance.

Servillon noted that the project had previously been effective in improving learner performance in his prior assignment in Iloilo, and he aims to replicate this success in Antique.

To facilitate communication, Servillon plans to display a tarpaulin in every school with his contact number, allowing parents and community members to reach out with their concerns and complaints about DepEd Antique.

Joining Servillon in his efforts is Dr. Rolando Jamora, the new Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of Antique.
