Manila: De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde notched its second win Tuesday at the expense of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-15, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, middle blocker Zamantha Nolasco led the Lady Blazers with 21 points on 12 attacks and eight blocks. Rhea Mae Densing chipped in 13 points off 11 attacks and two blocks, while Shekaina Rhedge Lleses had 12 points, including two service aces. “It’s obvious that since their mistakes have been happening one after another, they’re most likely either nervous or becoming overconfident. That’s probably their problem,” Benilde assistant coach Corrine Apostol said after the one-hour and 50-minute match. “Coach (Jerry Yee) talked to them about the need to be strong, because in crucial games, you can’t be nervous. Coach also pointed out the adjustments they needed because Letran also adjusted. Maybe, their courage just came out, especially since the score was close.”
Gia Marcel Maquilang finished with 21 points, 14 digs, and 10 excellent receptions for the Lady Knights, who have a new coach in Aleksi Lahteenimaki of Finland. Lahteenimaki replaced Oliver Almadro, who steered Letran to back-to-back NCAA Finals appearances.
In the men’s division, opposite hitter Al Bukharie Sali scored 21 points off 16 attacks, two service aces, and three blocks as the University of Santo Tomas prevailed over Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21. Gboy de Vega and JJ Macam contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, while team captain Dux Yambao made 20 excellent sets as the Golden Spikers secured their second win.
