Criss Cross Faces Off Against Cignal in Spikers’ Turf Finals

Manila: Criss Cross seeks to keep its momentum against powerhouse Cignal in Game One of the best-of-three Spikers’ Turf Open Conference Finals at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday. The King Crunchers, who swept the eliminations and semifinals, face the defending champion HD Spikers at 6 p.m. However, Cignal has beaten Criss Cross in their last two championship encounters.

According to Philippines News Agency, setter Ish Polvorosa, whose brilliant showing earned him the Player of the Week twice, said this is the best opportunity to finally dethrone Cignal. “There’s pressure on both sides, but I still see us as the underdogs. We didn’t win against them last year, so this is our chance to grab the championship, especially given how well we’ve played this conference,” said Polvorosa, who will be supported by reigning MVP Jude Garcia, Jaron Requinton, Nico Almendras, and Marck Espejo.

“We have faith in each other and the courage to fight for the championship this time. We know Cignal won’t go down without a fight, so we’re preparing thoroughly for this battle,” he added. Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor said championship experience and composure would be crucial in their title defense. “We’re a champion team. A defending champion. So the team knows how important this finals series is. We’re not dwelling on our previous losses. Our focus is on the finals and winning when it matters most,” said Clamor.

Spearheading the HD Spikers are Steven Rotter, Louie Ramirez, JP Bugaoan, Jau Umandal, and Owa Retamar. Meanwhile, Savouge seeks to dominate VNS-Laticrete in the battle for the bronze medal. Mark Calado, Shawie Caritativo, and Giles Torres will banner the Spin Doctors while CJ Segui, KC Culabat, and Rash Nursiddik will lead the Griffins in their 3:30 p.m. showdown.
