Consignee of P3.43-M Shabu Parcels Nabbed in Pasay

Pasay city: The Bureau of Customs - Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted two inbound parcels containing approximately 505 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP3.43 million at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City. In a statement Wednesday, the bureau reported that the parcels were examined on Tuesday, after being flagged during customs screening and risk assessment procedures. A physical inspection subsequently revealed the suspected illegal drugs concealed within the shipments.

According to Philippines News Agency, BOC personnel immediately coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group5, and other concerned authorities to conduct the necessary testing, inventory, and case documentation. A claimant who appeared to receive the parcels was subsequently apprehended and turned over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and filing of charges.

The seized substances tested positive for shabu. Appropriate charges are being prepared for violations of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), in relation to relevant provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).

At the same time, the BOC - Port of Clark, in coordination with the Clark Inter-Agency Task Force Against Illegal Drugs, also reported the interception of a shipment containing 4.05 kilograms of shabu worth PHP27.54 million. Declared as nail powder and other salon products, the parcel underwent standard Customs clearance procedures, including X-ray scanning and profiling. Suspicious findings prompted Customs authorities to conduct a full physical examination.

The shipment arrived from the United States on June 9 and was bound for Mandaluyong City. During a physical examination on June 11, authorities discovered a nail care set and two white plastic square buckets labeled as nail powder products. However, the buckets were found to contain a white crystalline substance, which was confirmed to be shabu based on initial testing by authorities using a Rigaku spectrometer.

Representative samples were subsequently turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for confirmatory laboratory analysis. A warrant of seizure and detention (WSD) was issued against the shipment for violations of Sections 118(g), 119(d), and 1113, paragraphs (f), (i), and (l) of RA 10863, in relation to RA 9165, as amended.
