LEGAZPI CITY: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) 5 (Bicol) assured the public that all pertinent documents related to the preparations for the national and local elections (NLE) 2025 remain secure, despite Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) causing significant disruptions.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec-5 Director Maria Juana Valeza stated in an interview on Monday that while some voters’ registration machines were damaged, backup files were safely preserved. Assistance has been requested from the central office to replace all damaged office computers promptly to avoid delays in the preparations for the mid-term elections.

The Comelec offices affected by the storm include those in Libon, Oas in Albay; Gainza, Milaor, Minalabac, Camaligan, Bato, and Iriga City in Camarines Sur. Valeza mentioned that a total of eight laptops, 11 printers, nine uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), six automatic voltage regulators (AVRs), and six scanners have been requested for replace
ment. Additionally, office supplies, tables, and chairs for temporary use have also been requested.

Valeza expressed gratitude to Comelec officials for the relief items delivered to Bicol for employees affected by the storm. The relief goods were sourced from contributions by the Comelec chairman and senior staff, and the purchase of rice and goods was not charged from government funds. She noted that after the flood, field offices from various regions sent financial assistance, raising more than PHP420,000. Valeza thanked everyone for their support and care for Bicol.
