Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that approximately one million voters identified with multiple registrations will not face disenfranchisement in the upcoming May 2025 elections. Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia confirmed this in a radio interview, emphasizing that these voters will retain their voting rights despite the registration discrepancies.

According to Philippines News Agency, Garcia stated that while duplicate or multiple registrations will be addressed, the original registration record for each voter will be preserved. “We won’t delete the registrations of a double or multiple registrant. There will be one left,” Garcia assured. The subsequent registrations will be removed to ensure that only one valid data entry remains for each voter by the 2025 elections.

Garcia further emphasized that the poll body is committed to upholding the constitutional right of every Filipino to vote, indicating that the process to rectify multiple registrations will not infringe upon this f
undamental right. This comes after Comelec’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System identified around one million voters with duplicate or multiple entries in the electoral roll.
