Legazpi: The Commission on Elections in Bicol (Comelec-5), in collaboration with other national government agencies, has vowed to ensure the safety and security of the upcoming national and local elections in May. This commitment was formalized during a solidarity pact signing held at Camp Simeon Ola on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec-5 regional director Maria Juana Valeza emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting the collective commitment of the involved parties to safeguard democratic processes and ensure the success of the forthcoming elections. Valeza stressed the importance of upholding the integrity and transparency of the electoral system, urging leaders from government agencies, non-government organizations, and all stakeholders to unite in protecting and respecting every Filipino citizen’s right to vote. She underscored the necessity for candidates and their supporters to operate within the legal framework.
The signing of the pact, Valeza noted, is a reflection of the shared goal to facilitate free and fear-free voting for every Filipino. The pledge mandates all candidates and their supporters to adhere to election laws and principles of fairness. Valeza called on everyone to remember their roles as stewards of democracy, emphasizing the importance of fairness, justice, and mutual respect in building trust and ensuring a transparent electoral process aimed at achieving a better Philippines.
Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon, Director of the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5), expressed the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) commitment to securing the electoral process. Dizon assured that the PNP would intensify efforts to protect the sanctity of the ballot, safeguard voters’ rights, and ensure the safety of all election stakeholders. He highlighted the PNP’s vigilance against any threats, violence, or illegal activities that could jeopardize the elections, affirming the PNP’s role as a reliable partner in maintaining peace and order throughout the election period.
Dizon also called for collective action and unity, emphasizing that the success of the 2025 elections requires active participation and cooperation from all sectors. He encouraged everyone to work together to make the Bicol Region a model of democracy in action. With the commitment of PRO-5 and its partners, Dizon affirmed the region’s strengthened efforts towards a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
The event witnessed participation from various representatives, including those from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Civil Service Commission, Department of Education, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations. The presence of these entities, along with non-government organizations like the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the National Movement for Free Elections, underscored the broad support for ensuring secure elections.
