Davao city: The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has intensified relief operations in Davao Occidental following the recent earthquake, transporting a total of 3,644 units of relief goods from various donors.
According to Philippines News Agency, CGDSEM stated that the goods were ferried through BRP Malamawi to deliver humanitarian aid to quake-hit communities in the province. Data showed that 123 personnel were mobilized, along with nine assets, including land mobility units, communications equipment, a floating asset, and water desalination equipment. A K9 team with two handlers and two search-and-rescue dogs also joined the deployment.
Since the June 8 earthquake, BRP Malamawi has completed 14 missions, transporting goods from multiple sources, including 1,373 units from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao, 443 from the Office of the Vice President, 210 from the Archdiocese of Davao, 841 from the Philippine Red Cross and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and 777 from the Coast Guard Auxiliary District Southeastern Mindanao. The cargo included family tents, food packs, rice, bottled water, hygiene kits, tarpaulins, sleeping kits, and other essential supplies.
CGDSEM highlighted that the coordinated effort reflects the strong partnership among government agencies, local institutions, and humanitarian groups to ensure timely assistance for quake survivors. The sustained deployment of BRP Malamawi underscores the Coast Guard's commitment to providing aid and restoring essential services in disaster-affected areas.
