Clark Revives Community Festival to Boost Culture, Tourism

Manila: The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is reviving the historic Happening on the Green (HOG), a two-day lifestyle and community festival that aims to celebrate Clark’s cultural heritage while promoting family-oriented tourism and local enterprise.

According to Philippines News Agency, CDC Tourism Promotions Division manager Elenita Lorenzo revealed in a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview that the festival, scheduled for November 8 to 9 at the Clark Parade Grounds, will spotlight the vibrant community life that was a hallmark of Clark during the American period. Lorenzo explained that the festival, initially inspired by an American festivity at the former U.S. air base’s Challenger’s Field, included food stalls, concerts, and community fairs for servicemen and their families.

The updated version of the event is designed to give the tradition a ‘local twist,’ incorporating Filipino family values and cultural pride. To attract both local and foreign visitors, the CDC planned a series of activities blending nostalgia with contemporary entertainment.

The inaugural day will include a family fun run, costume parade, brass band and cavalry exhibitions, and a barbecue meetup and chili cook-off, echoing the original festivities. The second day will feature a grand family picnic, hot air balloon displays, kite-making competition, and a hotdog-eating contest, which organizers hope will become a signature attraction in future editions.

To support local entrepreneurs, the festival’s Made in Clark bazaar and art market are open to micro, small, and medium enterprises from both inside and outside the Freeport Zone. Lorenzo also acknowledged the strong support from public and private partners, including airlines, hotels, and commercial brands that contributed prizes, flight tickets, and booth activations.

Through initiatives like Happening on the Green, the CDC aims to position Clark as a premier destination for tourism, leisure, and investment, where history and modern living intersect.
