Iloilo city: The Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) approved a resolution on Wednesday requesting PHP50 million in aid to construct a classroom building in the Mandurriao district. This resolution supports a request already sent by Mayor Raisa Tre±as to Senator Bam Aquino’s office on August 26.
According to Philippines News Agency, the fund is earmarked for a four-story building comprising 12 classrooms at Mandurriao National High School. Mayor Tre±as highlighted the school’s dire need for additional classrooms due to an increasing number of enrollees, which has forced some classes to be conducted in makeshift rooms or under temporary structures. These conditions are not suitable for learning and pose safety risks during inclement weather.
The mayor emphasized that the new classrooms would help alleviate overcrowding and provide a secure learning environment for both current and future students. The school currently accommodates 3,349 students.
Acting Majority Floor Leader Frances Grace Parcon-Torres encouraged her fellow council members to approve the resolution unanimously. She noted that while the request has been made, it ultimately depends on Senator Bam Aquino’s office to grant the necessary funds.
