Pasig City: Cignal HD Spikers’ Ishie Lalongisip was named the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for February 4 to 8, becoming the first rookie to receive the honor.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lalongisip scored 13 points on Thursday as Cignal ended a two-game slump with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 victory over Capital1 at Philsports Arena in Pasig City. This victory improved the HD Spikers’ record to 6-3 in the All-Filipino Conference.
The 23-year-old Adamson University alumna expressed her approach to the game, stating, “I just embrace the role given to me by coach Shaq [Delos Santos], it seems like maybe the pressure is always there, I’m just entertaining it positively.” Lalongisip managed to edge out PLDT’s Savi Davison, Petro Gazz’s Brooke Van Sickle, and Creamline’s Bea De Leon for the award presented by Pilipinas Live.
With the exit of main hitter and skipper Ces Molina and middle blocker Riri Meneses mid-season, Lalongisip seized the opportunity to showcase her talent. The Cignal HD Spikers aim to maintain their momentum when they face the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, who hold a 4-5 record, on February 13.
In a previous match, Petro Gazz defeated ZUS Coffee with scores of 25-20, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22 on February 4.
