Manila: The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) announced on Monday the arrest of nearly 11,000 wanted individuals and the seizure of over 1,400 unlicensed firearms, alongside PHP3.3 billion worth of evidence, in its anti-crime operations conducted throughout 2024.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the CIDG’s 72nd founding anniversary at Camp Crame, CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III reported that a total of 13,349 law enforcement operations were carried out last year. These initiatives led to the arrest of 10,797 wanted persons, the seizure of 1,439 loose firearms, and the confiscation of evidence valued at PHP3,361,432,558.24.
In 2024, the CIDG successfully resolved 2,729 cases, achieving a high crime clearance efficiency of 99.50 percent and a crime solution efficiency of 85.92 percent, Torre added. To sustain this momentum, Torre emphasized that the CIDG would continue refining and implementing strategies to enhance its relevance and effectiveness in law enforcement.
Torre also highlighted the importance of strengthening inter-agency cooperation with law enforcement partners, local government units, and international organizations to address transnational crimes and promote seamless intelligence sharing.
Meanwhile, in an interview, Torre addressed rumors circulating online about his alleged hospitalization. He announced his intention to file a cyberlibel complaint against individuals spreading these false claims, dismissing the rumors and labeling photos purportedly showing him in a hospital as “fake.”
Torre expressed concern over the impact of these rumors on his family and colleagues, stating, “It’s not only me who’s affected but my family and colleagues as well. My cellphone kept ringing with people asking if I was alright.”
Torre identified former broadcaster Jay Sonza as one of those allegedly responsible for spreading the rumor and expressed his desire to pursue legal action against them. Previously, Torre filed an inciting to sedition complaint against former Philippine Army captain Clemente Enrique over his alleged calls to help overthrow the government. The complaint included copies of videos posted by Enrique on various online platforms.
