Quezon City: The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) announced on Monday that 15 of the 29 police officers implicated in the alleged mishandling of a PHP6.7-billion drug haul in October 2022 are currently in custody.

According to Philippines News Agency, CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III informed reporters during the 72nd founding anniversary of CIDG at Camp Crame that these officers, comprising both active and retired members, are now under detention. Torre also mentioned that some officers have shown willingness to surrender.

The Manila Regional Trial Court Branches 175 and 44 have issued arrest warrants for the 29 active and former officers. These warrants are related to the alleged evidence tampering and mishandling of prosecution in the anti-drug operation. In response, the PNP has established Task Force 29 to pursue those involved.
