Tagaytay city: The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced the initiation of a program designed to strengthen the leadership capacities of officials at the nation's state universities and colleges (SUCs). This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to bolster Philippine higher education institutions in adapting to the dynamic needs of learners, technological progress, and industry requirements.

According to Philippines News Agency, CHED, in collaboration with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), introduced the Elevating Leadership and Institutional Capacity Towards Excellence in Philippine Higher Education (ELITE-PHE) from September 7 to 9. The event took place at the DAP Conference Center in Tagaytay City, aiming to enhance the decision-making capabilities of SUC leaders to ensure quality higher education.

CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis emphasized the critical role of leadership in education, stating, "A policy can establish a direction. A framework can provide guidance. Resources can make implementation possible. But institutional leaders still have to make the crucial decisions." The ELITE-PHE program is structured into three specific tracks targeting different roles within SUC leadership and governance.

The tracks include the Executive Training Program for Presidents, aimed at SUC presidents; Governance Strengthening for Effective SUC Oversight, designed for Board Secretaries; and the Executive Leadership Development Program for selected future SUC presidents and higher education leaders. The program drew 87 participants, comprising state university and college presidents, vice presidents, senior administrators, academicians, and board secretaries.

In addition, 40 CHED-DAP scholars from across the country were chosen for the Executive Leadership Development Program, which will extend over three months until November. This program will concentrate on cultivating strategic leadership and advanced governance skills among participants.
