Cebu Archbishop Orders Opening of Churches for Typhoon Victims

Cebu: Churches under the Archdiocese of Cebu are ready to accommodate people who will be affected by Typhoon Tino. ‘As Archbishop of Cebu, I have directed all priests to open the churches within the archdiocese as shelters for those seeking refuge during the storm,’ Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy said in a social media post Monday. He pointed out, however, that only churches that were not damaged by the recent earthquake, may accept evacuees. Uy also asked the people to pray. ‘Please stay safe and keep everyone in your prayers,’ he said.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Monday that Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) is moving west toward the Visayas and northern Palawan, bringing heavy rains, storm-force winds, and the threat of life-threatening storm surges in several regions. The typhoon may make its initial landfall over the southern portion of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands late Monday night or early Tuesday morning before crossing the Visayas and northern Palawan. It is set to exit the West Philippine Sea by Thursday morning.
