CDO Night Market Temporarily Shuts Down for Cleanliness Review

Tokyo: This city's night market will temporarily close beginning March 9 to allow for sanitation measures and a review of vendor guidelines, officials announced Tuesday. Jose Edgardo Uy, co-chair of the Night Market Committee, stated that the closure is a necessary measure to review and recalibrate cleanliness and sanitation practices and to re-evaluate guidelines on the orderly conduct of selling. "The other night they were already informed and notices were served to them (the vendors)," he said in an interview.

According to Philippines News Agency, since 2022, under the administration of Mayor Rolando Uy, vendors have been allowed to occupy portions of the streets surrounding the Cogon Public Market from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. nightly. Meanwhile, the City Health Office urged the public to maintain healthy food and lifestyle choices to prevent heart-related diseases. Dr. Erica Joyce Alfonso, Medical Officer III, highlighted that a sedentary lifestyle and long-term stress can contribute to developing heart diseases.

Dr. Elyza Allene Paderanga, also a Medical Officer III, mentioned that they are reintroducing programs and health education to inform the public on healthy lifestyle and food consumption. The Philippine Heart Association has also included the city in its long-term vision to address the need for cardiologists.
