Cagayan de oro: The city government, for the first time, distributed PHP7 million to 1,000 indigent solo parents here on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Rolando Uy stated that the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) was tasked with implementing the local government’s obligation under Republic Act 11861, also known as the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act. “This is the first time in our city that there is a subsidy for solo parents,” he said.
The City Council had earlier approved the release of a one-time subsidy of PHP7,000 by the CSWDO to qualified solo parents on a yearly basis. This initiative is in line with the provisions of the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act, ensuring that solo parents receive financial support.
Under the law, a PHP1,000 monthly cash subsidy from the Department of Social Welfare and Development is also available to qualified solo parents across the nation. To ensure eligibility for the next subsidy cycle, barangays are tasked with maintaining an updated list of indigent solo parents in their respective areas.
