The issue of public servants falling into bankruptcy is not a recent phenomenon. The growing number of bankruptcies among civil servants is a matter of increasing concern, with the Insolvency Department recently reporting that public servants accounted for 10 to 13 per cent of new bankruptcy cases registered nationwide over the past four years. Director-General of the Insolvency Department, Datuk M Bakri Abd Majid has said, such cases should not occur, as excessive indebtedness is a clear violation under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. He added that in some cases, public servants have voluntarily filed for bankruptcy

Buy-bust inside Cebu City cemetery yields P3.2-M shabu

CEBU CITY – A high-value suspect was arrested in an anti-drug buy-bust operation inside a Chinese cemetery here and seized from him PHP2.3 million worth of suspected shabu. Police Lt. Christopher Irwin Sanchez Jr. identified the 22-year-old suspect as one ‘Dugong’, a resident of Barangay Mabolo. Dugong was apprehended by the operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit inside the cemetery in Barangay Carreta after he transacted to a poseur buyer on Sunday night. PSEi slightly up, peso weakens

Manila: The local stock market rebounded on Monday, while the peso closed weaker against the dollar. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) went up by 0.22 percent to 7,326.41 while All Shares also rose 0.24 percent to 4,024.72. Manila: Seven out of 10 Filipinos will not support political candidates with known leanings to China in the 2025 midterm elections, think-tank Stratbase ADR Institute said on Monday. This is based on the results of a Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the think-tank, which polled 1,300 respondents from Sept. 6 to 13 and had a ± 3 percent margin of error.
