Castro Confirms Bersamin’s Departure Announcement Originated from Malaca±ang

Manila: Malaca±ang on Thursday confirmed that the announcement regarding the departure of former Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin from the Cabinet was made under the authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. This clarification comes after Bersamin, the former Chief Justice, denied resigning on his own accord.

According to Philippines News Agency, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the information about Bersamin’s exit was disseminated by Malaca±ang. Castro stated, “Muli po, ang pina-announce po sa atin ay galing sa Palasyo (Once again, what we announced came from the Palace),” and refrained from providing additional details.

Castro further explained in a press briefing that Bersamin, along with Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, stepped down from their positions “out of delicadeza” in light of budget insertion allegations related to flood control anomalies involving their offices. She mentioned that their decision to leave was intended to ensure that investigations could proceed without interference.

Bersamin, however, publicly contested the Palace’s announcement, stating that he did not resign but instead submitted a letter placing himself under the discretion of the President. He asserted that the Palace’s statement did not accurately represent his actions.
