Zamboanga city: The city government has launched a cashless fuel program for its fleet of vehicles and equipment, modernizing fuel management and strengthening transparency and accountability across government operations.
According to Philippines News Agency, the program, launched on Monday, introduces a digital fuel transaction system that replaces traditional fuel procurement and monitoring methods. It is implemented in partnership with Petron, the fuel provider.
On behalf of Mayor Khymer Olaso, Vice Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco, and the mayor's office chief of staff and secretary, Celso Lobregat, led the distribution of fleet cards to various departments, offices, and divisions during the regular flag-raising ceremony. The number of fleet cards issued was based on the vehicles assigned to each office.
Lobregat said the fleet card system consists of two types of cards: the red vehicle card and the blue administrative card. The red vehicle card is assigned to specific government vehicles and contains the vehicle's plate number and office designation. On the other hand, the blue administrative card is intended for generator sets, motorboats, and other city-owned equipment requiring fuel support.
'The initiative is among Mayor Olaso's flagship programs aimed at replacing paper-based trip tickets with a secure, digital, and highly accountable fuel management platform,' he said. Lobregat noted that the system helps minimize fraud, reduces administrative workload, and enables real-time monitoring of fuel transactions across Petron's 13 service stations in this city and its nationwide network.
'The digital fuel transaction system streamlines and monitors fuel consumption for the city government's motor vehicles and equipment,' he said.
