MANILA: The social and advocacy branch of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called on the faithful to unite in fostering hope within the church as the 2025 Jubilee Year approaches. This initiative aims to strengthen faith, spread hope, and uphold commitments to service, compassion, and justice.
According to Philippines News Agency, Caritas Philippines President Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo emphasized the active nature of hope, urging believers to act with boldness and fidelity. He highlighted the importance of supporting marginalized and vulnerable communities, aligning with the church’s mission of service. Bagaforo also underlined the church’s duty to preserve nature, reflecting Jesus Christ’s call to protect creation.
Bishop Bagaforo pointed out the necessity of collaboration among the church, government, and other societal sectors to ensure inclusivity and progress for all members of society. He encouraged the faithful to be “pilgrims of hope,” bringing the light of Christ into the world and marking the New Year with renewal and resilience.
As part of the Jubilee Year observance, Pope Francis inaugurated the event on December 24, 2024, by opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. Caritas Philippines expressed that the Jubilee spirit would enhance the church’s holistic approach towards heritage development and promote a natural and universal consciousness.
