CAB Lowers Fuel Surcharge to Level 3 for June

Manila: The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) on Wednesday announced the lowering of the fuel surcharge from Level 4 to Level 3 for the month of June, marking the lowest surcharge rate so far this year. This adjustment is set to benefit travelers with lowered additional fees on their flight tickets.

According to Philippines News Agency, the fuel surcharge is an additional fee that airlines may impose on top of the base fare to manage costs arising from fuel price fluctuations. With the revised Level 3 surcharge, passengers on domestic flights can expect to pay an added fee ranging from PHP83 to PHP300. For international flights, the surcharge will range from PHP273.36 to PHP2,032.54, depending on the travel distance.

AirAsia Philippines expressed approval of the CAB’s decision, stating that it presents an excellent opportunity for customers to plan future travels at reduced costs. “It’s the perfect chance to plan ahead and book travels at even lower costs,” the airline commented in a statement.

The CAB’s advisory, though dated May 19, was made public on Wednesday. It included a directive from CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla, requiring airlines that intend to apply the fuel surcharge to submit their applications to his office by the effective date. The conversion rate applied for calculating the fuel surcharge in June stands at USD1 to PHP56.42.
