BUTUAN CITY: Police in Surigao del Sur arrested two high-value targets and seized more than PHP1 million worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation Tuesday in Purok 5, Barangay Ganayon, Lianga town. Col. Harry Domingo, chief of the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO), reported Wednesday that authorities confiscated approximately 150 grams of shabu, two .45 caliber pistols, three magazines, and 19 rounds of live ammunition during the operation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the suspects were identified as Archie Boquecosa Alpuerto, 44, a resident of Purok Kalipayan, Barangay Bungtod, Tandag City, and Juvan Suarez Duero, 38, a carpenter with the Provincial Engineering Office in Surigao del Sur and a resident of Purok Palmera, Barangay Mabua, Tandag City.

The operation was part of the SDSPPO’s intensified campaign against illegal drug activities in the province, as stated by Domingo. The efforts aim to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs and related crimes in the region, ensuring the
safety and well-being of the community.

Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel commended the SDSPPO for its successful operation. He reiterated the provincial government’s support for the anti-drug campaign, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling the drug menace.

The suspects are currently detained at the Lianga Municipal Police Station. They will face criminal charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which provides the legal framework for prosecuting drug-related offenses in the Philippines.
