BuCor Orders Prisons to Prepare for Typhoon Tino’s Impact

Manila: Prisons throughout the country were reminded to take measures against the probable onslaught of Typhoon Tino.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. stated that his office has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and preparedness of various correctional facilities. Catapang specifically ordered officials of the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, Leyte Regional Prison, and Davao Prison and Penal Farm to be more vigilant, prioritizing both safety and effective communication to navigate through this potentially hazardous situation.

Catapang emphasized the importance of readiness and a comprehensive contingency plan tailored to the specific needs of each facility, considering the challenges that may arise during severe weather events.

As of 2 p.m., the center of Typhoon Tino was located 235 kilometers east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 155 kph, moving westward at 25 kph.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, Tino could make an initial landfall over the vicinity of the southern portion of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Afterwards, Tino will traverse Visayas and northern Palawan before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday.
