Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has reported a record-breaking collection of PHP664.776 billion from January to August 2026, marking the highest revenue ever recorded by the bureau for the first eight months of a year. This achievement surpasses the bureau's target of PHP659.31 billion by PHP5.47 billion.
According to Philippines News Agency, the preliminary collection report indicates a significant 7 percent increase, equivalent to PHP43.39 billion, compared to the PHP621.39 billion collected during the same period in 2025. The bureau has attributed this success to the dedication of its personnel despite adverse weather conditions that resulted in work suspensions and disruptions in trade and government operations across the nation.
The BOC highlighted the impact of nearly two weeks of disrupted work, where the unloading and processing of shipments in several ports were stalled due to heavy rains. These disruptions affected the timely movement of cargo and related Customs activities. Despite these challenges, the bureau managed to maintain a collection surplus, showcasing the resilience and dedication of its workforce.
In August 2026, the BOC collected PHP81.36 billion, reflecting a 5.1 percent increase from the PHP77.35 billion recorded in August 2025, with an additional PHP3.93 billion collected. Although the monthly collections were slightly below the August target, the cumulative surplus of PHP5.47 billion ensured that the overall revenue remained above the set goal for the period.
Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno praised the bureau's personnel for their resilience and commitment in overcoming challenges. He emphasized that despite weather disturbances and work suspensions, the collection districts remained focused on their mission. He credited the PHP5.467-billion surplus to the hard work and dedication of Customs personnel, as well as the trust and cooperation of partner industries and stakeholders.
Commissioner Nepomuceno further noted the influence of external factors on monthly collection figures but reaffirmed the bureau's focus on sustaining strong revenue performance. This is to be achieved through improved compliance, accurate valuation and declaration, enhanced enforcement efforts, and close collaboration with the trading community. He expressed gratitude to every member of the BOC, as well as partner industries and stakeholders, for their trust, cooperation, and support in achieving this collective success.
