Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is rolling out dedicated X-ray lanes for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in key international airports as part of its efforts to provide faster, more convenient, and more organized customs processing for returning and departing Filipino workers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Customs Commissioner Arie Nepomuceno announced that the initiative is currently being implemented at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1 and 3 and Clark International Airport in Pampanga. Designated X-ray lanes are made available specifically for OFWs undergoing customs inspection and baggage examination.

Through the dedicated lanes, the BOC aims to facilitate passenger flow, reduce unnecessary waiting time, and provide OFWs with a more streamlined customs experience while ensuring compliance with existing customs laws and procedures. Commissioner Nepomuceno emphasized the significant contribution of OFWs to both their families and the country, underscoring the importance of making their passage through customs faster, more organized, and more convenient.

He mentioned that the BOC plans to progressively roll out the initiative to other international airports and passenger terminals across the country to make the service more accessible to OFWs. This expansion aims to benefit more OFWs with improved service at other international gateways.

The rollout is part of the BOC's broader modernization and passenger service initiatives, which leverage technology and streamlined procedures to improve the passenger experience while maintaining effective border protection and customs enforcement. The BOC remains committed to expanding practical and passenger-centered reforms that make customs services more efficient and accessible, particularly for OFWs who play a vital role in supporting their families and contributing to the country's economy.
