BFP Warns vs. Faulty Wiring, Overloading Amid High Heat Index

Pangasinan: The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Pangasinan on Thursday warned the public against overloading and faulty electrical wiring, which are major fire hazards during the ongoing high heat index in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, Fire Senior Inspector Gian Gloreine Galano reported that 105 fire incidents were recorded from Jan. 1 to March 20, most of which were caused by faulty wiring. Out of these incidents, 55 were structural fires affecting residential and commercial properties, 28 were non-structural fires involving grass and rubbish, and 12 were vehicular fires.

Galano urged residents to avoid overloading extension wires and refrain from connecting multiple extensions, which can lead to overheating. She also advised against using phones while charging and recommended checking home wiring every two years to prevent potential hazards.

BFP-Pangasinan is actively promoting fire safety awareness through the Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan Program. This initiative encourages villages to form community fire brigades and conduct exit drills, prioritizing vulnerable groups to enhance overall safety.
